The Fantasticks

Synopsis
The Fantasticks is an allegory that centers around two fathers (and neighbors) who trick their children, Matt and Luisa, into falling in love by pretending to feud with one another. Truthfully, the men are lifelong friends, but they want nothing more than for their respective son and daughter to marry. All is going according to plan as The fathers hire a troupe of actors to stage a mock abduction of Luisa so that Matt may save her and thus end the “feud.” Everything is going according to plan at first, but when their children discover that the whole thing had been a plot, they reject their fathers’ matchmaking and separate, each going out to see the world for themselves. Their views of the world become distorted by a series of disjointed fantasy sequences, and they must then decide what it means to fall in love on their own terms.
